Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Brown) Price

Great camera!! - Jason P. - Fair Lawn, NJ, United States
I have had this camera for over a year now. I like it very much. It is small, easy to use, and takes very good pictures. The only negative I have is that the Red Eye function is only OK, not great. I still get a lot of red eyes in my photos, especially in-doors and especially with kids. But having said that, the camera still takes a lot of great photos, much better than the last digital camera that I had. Also, the videos it takes are outstanding. What a great feature!

Customer Reviews

I've had this camera for a few years now and still enjoy it. It has held up extremely well and easily fits in my pocket for those times when I know I'll want pictures without the fuss of a bulky bag or other unnecessary accessories. I find the quality of the pictures to be clear and crisp, especially once you master the slight delay after pressing the button down. My favorite feature is the Color Accent where it grays out the rest of the colors except for the one you choose. I find it to be extremely user friendly, considering as soon as I got it, I started to play around with it, not once needing to look at the manual.

I find the battery life to be pretty substantial, considering I can take pictures and video for hours without a problem (I also don't need to bother charging the battery all the time). When it comes to video, the sound and picture quality is pretty good for a camera that takes photos. A few downsides to the video, is that sometimes the quality is a bit pixilated, you'll really need good lighting and you cannot zoom once in video mode. You have to set the zoom before pressing the record button. Another down side to the photos is that although it has 12X zoom, most pictures are a bit fuzzy or blurry that close up. I've learned to try to keep an extremely steady hand when zooming that close.

Overall, I love this camera, and whenever it breaks I'll most likely buy the exact same one all over again. It has helped capture both photo and video moments in my life with ease, creating wonderful memories.

Great camera.. great quality pictures and video... at very good price - Prakash - PA
I bought this camera almost a year back from Amazon. I have really enjoyed and very satisfied with this camera. Great picture quality, great video at very good price. It is very small in size and fits in hand or small pockets. Very easy to carry around. I was hesitant to buy this blue color camera, but it looked great when I saw it in a store before ordering on amazon.

Canon PowerShot SD770IS 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black) Price

Excellent camera, handy size - Mark in Baltimore - Baltimore
I LOVE my SD770. It's far less plasticky than Canon's other offerings and feels more jewel-like with the extra metal. I tried a larger Canon 870 P&S with a wider lens but just couldn't get over the bigger dimensions. The 770 is a perfect size to carry everywhere. I love how you can set the print button to almost whatever function you want. I have it set for the exposure function. The close-up feature is phenomenal. At less than a 400 ISO, I get very little noise. Video feature is really quite handy and useful. Battery life is incredible.

Keep in mind that I shot professionally for thirteen years (Hasselblads and Canon F-1's) and now shoot with a Canon 40D, so I'm kind of particular about my image quality.

My only gripe is that the battery cover has gotten really loose over time (have had the camera for a year), so I have to be careful to not open the cover when shooting, thereby shutting the camera down.

Customer Reviews

I just noticed I never reviewed this camera I got for Christmas last year (2008). Well, let me tell you this is a great camera. Overall, pictures are crisp and sharp, colors are true to life and bright and features are adequate. I have had this for a year after getting during last year's Black Friday sale and have never regretted getting it (especially at a discounted price!)

I like that it takes videos with sound, at a resolution more than adequate for YouTube sharing. The response time is pretty decent; you don't need to wait a long time for it to "load" or "reset" in between pictures. It's pretty fast. It also has face recognition, although I'm not sure how useful it really is. This pretty much have the features you'd come to expect from Canon pocket cameras.

However, it's not perfect and there are drawbacks. When the flash is turned off, images can get a little blurry. The flash seems to force to camera to focus and when I turn it off (say, I don't want glare reflecting) I have to hold the camera real still or it'll get somewhat fuzzy. If there is natural light and the camera's autoflash doesn't go off, it's not a problem -- only when manually turned off. That's the biggest deficiency. This won't do well in low light settings where you want to capture something far away (try shooting someone at night with the Eiffel Tower lit up behind him) -- but this is a pocket point-and-shoot. In this price range, no camera will excel in low-light situations. (I did get the Eiffel Tower shot, but it was slightly blurry due to the aforementioned issue of blurriness with the flash off). This is mainly a limitation of the price range, not this model.

I bought and tried at least four other cameras during Black Friday before picking this one. It was the best, by far. I have come to regard Canon as the top name in digital cameras -- they always seem to deliver on quality. My digital camera before this was a Canon, and I'm sure my next will be, too.

AVOID CANON AT ALL COSTS, disposable camera - J. Lee - Morristown, NJ
PROS: portable, nice images, extensive features for a point-and-shoot
CONS: longevity of less than a year, poor customer service

Yes, it's small in size, large in features, and takes very nice pictures. But in less than a year, this camera has been rendered functionally useless. Following just 10 months of normal usage, it no longer takes still shots (but works on video) and intermittently fails to turn on. Canon's 1-yr warranty was still in effect -- we were grateful at first -- but this proved to be a false hope. After an initial notice of "this will be promptly repaired for you," a few days later Canon's customer (dis)service CONVENIENTLY found corrosion damage from water(?!), which we dispute completely, and declined to repair it. Either this camera is susceptible to condensation from sitting in a dry pocket or Canon is dishing out horse manure while slithering off the hook -- we suspect the latter.

Couple the poor reliability of this camera with disingenuous warranty service, and suddenly Canon has lost us as a faithful customer. We'll look at Nikon, Pentax, and plenty of other worthy competitors instead. We urge you to do the same.
